FAQs about Shri Mangesh Devasthan

1. What is the procedure for registration for Maharudra at Mangeshi?

ANS: You can do it by sending a DD for Rs.1250/- in favour of Shri Manguesh Devasthan, payable at Mangueshim Goa or Ponda Goa. Covering letter should state that it is for the purpose of Maharudra booking. Please give your detailed address, Gotra, etc.
 
2. Is there any eligibilty criteria?

ANS: You should be a Gaud Saraswat Brahmin.
 
3. Who is the registering authority? Shri Mangirish Seva Samiti or any priest?

ANS: Only the Committee of Shri Manguesh Devasthan. No priest is authorised to do this. Committee office will issue you a official receipt for this. For any correspondence in this regard you should state the no. of this receipt.
 
4. How much time it takes for our number to come? I have heard that  it takes atleast 10 years! Is it true?

ANS: Yes.
 
5. In which season, Maharudra is performed?

ANS: Throughout the year.
 
6. For how many days, Maharudra goes on?

ANS: Either two or three depending upon which slot you get.

7. On what basis, the name is selected? Serial Number-wise or on the basis of allotment?

ANS: In chronological order of Sr. Nos. of booking receipts issued.
 
8. What is the difference between Abhishekam, Laghurudra & Maharudra?

ANS: Maharudra comprises of 11 Laghurudras.
 
9. Every year, I visit Mangeshi during the festivals. I have seen that the stall-owners are allowed to set up their stalls in the complex/around the temple for last two days of festivals. It becomes very difficult to walk around temple at the time of Palakhi Procession. Don't you think, it is cause of concern from holiness & cleanliness point of view of temple? I understand that this has been happening since many decades.

ANS: Yes. Only for Magh Poornima Mahotsav at Mangeshi and Magh Panchami Mahotsav at Kavale. It has been so since ages.

10. While reading Guest Book of this Website, I came across with the following message, in which the author has written something called “Mahajan membership number”. Is there any membership number given to every Mahajan? I regularly visit Mangeshi every nine months & stay there in Agrashala for four days. But the officials never told me about such membership number nor did they ask me about my membership number. I request you to provide me information about the same.

ANS: Yes. Every Mahajan on attaining 21 years can apply for membership in prescribed form. The forms are available only in the month of November and have to be submitted duly filled by December end. On scrutiny the memberships are allotted by January end. Please note that this membership entitles you the voting rights during elections or during General Body meetings. However for performing poojas or for staying at Mangeshi, or taking part in any functions, etc. this membership number is not required.
